Job opportunity: Chief Executive Officer (CEO)

We are looking for a Chief Executive Officer to lead the GRP Secretariat. Applications are due by 23:59 GMT on 6 May 2024.

Founded in 2014, The Global Resilience Partnership (GRP) comprises over 80 organisations working together to advance climate resilience by identifying and scaling locally-led innovations, sharing and generating knowledge, and shaping resilience policy and investments. We envision an inclusive world in harmony with nature that is better prepared to cope with shocks, adapt to change, and transform – all within planetary boundaries.

We are seeking an outstanding candidate for the role of Chief Executive Officer of the GRP who will lead the GRP Partnership and Secretariat. The GRP Secretariat is a diverse, international team that convenes and catalyses actions by the Partners and implements specific activities on behalf of the Partnership. The CEO will lead a nimble team that operates and collaborates virtually but holds offices in Stockholm, Sweden and in Cape Town, South Africa. This is a full time position for three year(s) with the possibility of renewal.

The successful candidate will be a dynamic and inspirational leader with experience in relationship management and cultivating opportunities and partnerships, based on the scientific understanding of the role of resilience. They will have the confidence needed to win support from decision-makers, forge new relationships and thrive on enhancing GRP’s current partnerships. This role will suit a network builder who is structured, reliable, positive and ambitious, with the ability to find solutions independently and creatively. Global South candidates are strongly encouraged to apply.

Candidates should be able to work collaboratively and lead by example; bringing people together to achieve a common purpose. A deep knowledge in climate change resilience and sustainability is a requirement. We are seeking someone who is autonomous, proactive, and results-focused. This position is best suited for someone who performs well in a fast-paced environment and sees creative solutions instead of obstacles. The position will report to the Director of the Stockholm Resilience Centre and the GRP NPC Board of Directors.

Main responsibilities

  • Deliver and execute GRP’s 2024-2029 Strategy, aligned with GRP’s mission.
  • Provide visionary leadership to inspire and motivate the secretariat towards organisational goals.
  • Ensure a balanced flow of activities and cross-collaboration between the three work areas (Innovation, Policy and Knowledge).
  • Lead and manage fundraising efforts, cultivating relationships with donors, partners, and stakeholders.
  • Ensure efficient and transparent financial management and internal control, maintaining the organisation’s financial sustainability.
  • Establish and maintain effective internal and external communication channels.
  • Represent the GRP in various forums, building and nurturing partnerships for enhanced impact.
  • Oversee program implementation, monitoring, and evaluation to ensure successful outcomes.

Terms of contract

This is a full-time remote position for three-years subject to renewal. Start date as soon as possible and no later than 1 September 2024. GRP strives to be a workplace free from discrimination and with equal opportunities for all. You will be part of a dynamic international team that is flexible, nimble and works collaboratively across country borders. The contract will include flexible leave days.

Compensation will be commensurate with experience and aligned with the organisation’s finances. The rate is negotiable following GRP Secretariat’s established remuneration policy.
